We have progressed our initial proposals to help inform the Torry Development Trust’s bid for the site – which goes before the Council Committee this month. The Trust are looking to provide a fully affordable housing scheme in conjunction with Grampian Housing Association, along with some community facilities, which will retain and restore 100% of the existing school buildings. A new build housing block with a nursery and community room and landscaping will complete the development.
These proposals underpin the Trust’s objectives for the site which, as well as retaining the existing school buildings and providing new facilities to meet established local needs, will improve pedestrian connectivity within and through the site, allowing suitable access for all and minimising car parking to ensure high quality areas of pedestrian-priority public realm are created.
A full public consultation exercise will take place if the Trust’s bid is accepted, to help further inform the final proposals. In the meantime we hope that the Council are able to recognise that this will be a sympathetic restoration and conversion of some fine examples of Aberdeen’s granite heritage, which will create housing, community and external space for local use.
