Victoria Road School Proposals to Assist in Bid to Save the Buildings!

March 2, 2018

DMA are assisting the Torry Development Trust in their bid to come up with a feasible and deliverable regeneration plan for the Victoria School Road in Torry.  With the granite heritage of the buildings at risk, the Trust are attempting to persuade the City Council that they should be given time to explore options for the retaining the buildings and becoming a development partner to deliver housing and community facilities for the local area. A full council meeting will be heard on March 5th to decide whether to give the Trust additional time, or whether to put the building up for sale on the open market.

This is urban regeneration from a grass roots level, meeting community needs locally, restoring and bringing the granite heritage back into use and creating housing, community and external space for local use.  The buildings are fine examples of turn of the 19th century architecture and, despite years of neglect, it has been established that they can be salvaged and restored to their former glory.  Open market bids may not be as sympathetic to the existing buildings, so we encourage the City Council to allow the Trust and their partners more time to fully explore the options for adaptive re-use.
