Ythsie, by Tarves provides a rare opportunity to develop a substantial
enlargement of a minor settlement in rural Aberdeenshire. As such it
has received very close scrutiny from Scottish Natural Heritage,
Scottish Civic Trust and other agencies including the environmental
protection agency.
A prolonged public consultation exercise was carried out which
provided useful feedback that has helped to achieve a scheme, which
provides benefits to existing residents and a close integration with a
sensitive established landscape.
The project will entail the phased construction of 51 houses. These
will be predominantly detached houses on large plots but will also
include a courtyard development of 11 affordable houses.
None of the existing agricultural buildings on the site were deemed
suitable for conversion (they were in very poor condition, wrongly
oriented and have been damaged by substantial earlier alterations).
Instead stone and slate will be carefully salvaged from demolitions and
incorporated into the construction of the new houses.
The project will involve major structural landscaping improvements.
