The new leisure club at the Aberdeen Thistle Hotel is the first to be
opened in Scotland by Thistle Hotels PLC as part of a roll-out
programme to upgrade a number of their hotels in key locations to
provide high quality leisure and fitness facilities.
The club provides a 13m long swimming pool, fitness room,
aerobics/dance suite and a number of ancillary leisure facilities.
The project presented a series of challenges to the Architects. The
existing building was a pretty drab grey concrete block dating from the
mid-seventies and the only area available for development was within
an existing courtyard. The response has provided a fresh design
approach, which has added a bit of sparkle to the building. Highly
efficient space planning has ensured that the new facilities provide a
bright and airy adjunct immediately accessible from the busy hotel lobby.
